"പിതോ രക്ഷതി കൌമാരേ.....ഭര്‍ത്തോ രക്ഷതി യൌവ്വനെ....പുത്രോ രക്ഷതി വാര്‍ദ്ധക്യേ...ന: സ്ത്രീ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യ അര്‍ഹതി.

A  much debated wisdom from respected Acharya Manu in Sanskrit. According to Hindu mythology, the Manusmriti is the word of Brahma. We had one whole chapter in Malayalam Language pointing out the meaning of the above stated lines and illustrating how woman lost their freedom.."Pitho Rakshathi"......It means...Since women are not capable of living independently, she is to be kept under the custody of her father as child, under her husband as a woman and under her son as widow. “Na ast strinam....." It means...Women have no divine right to perform any religious ritual, nor make vows or observe a fast. Her only duty is to obey and please her husband and she will for that reason alone be exalted in heaven.

Rev. Eggoni Pushpalalitha, who was appointed as a bishop on 29'th September 2013, by the Church of South India, successor of the Church of England in India. Rev. Pushpalalitha is the second woman to become a bishop among all Churches in India. Earlier in 1996, the Good Samaritan Evangelical Lutheran Church had appointed Rev.Aliveli Kadakshamma as its bishop. In scripture six women are expressly stated as possessing the title of prophetess. five under the old covenant and one, Anna, is mentioned in the gospels. In addition, Philip is mentioned in Acts as having four daughters who prophesied which brings the number of prophetesses to ten. But there is no reference to a woman being a priest or bishop.

Paul has written that women are not to hold positions of authority in the church. Timothy 3'rd chapter saying a bishop must be blameless, "the husband of one wife", temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence, for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God ?, not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

When Jesus chose only men as apostles, was he reflecting a permanent restriction on leadership within the church, or was it due to a temporary need ?. Jesus was willing to teach women in public and in private, and women were among his disciples, but he did not include them in the Twelve. There are good reasons not to have a Gentile in the Twelve, but why not any women ?". The word of God proclaims, “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent” (1Timothy 2:11). Since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man. For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. (1 Corinthians 11:7). Leviticus 15:19 saying... When a woman has a discharge, and the discharge in her body is blood, she shall be in her menstrual impurity for seven days, and whoever touches her shall be unclean until the evening. Only men are to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church. This is not because men are necessarily better teachers, or because women are inferior or less intelligent. It is simply the way God designed the church to function. After thousands of years of male dominance, we now stand at the beginning of the feminine era. But the Lord has not inspired the leaders of the church to extend that specific opportunity to woman, nor woman in the church to seek it, though not ordained to the priesthood. But women are the essential part of the councils at every level in the church. As a young boy I remember asking my appa out of simple curiosity.... why women didn't have the priesthood, he told me an answer I have never forgotten. He answered me why men don't have babies ? then he explained that we each have different roles in life............
